Kotha Soku

“Kotha Soku” from Pallaburusu is a lively Telangana folk-style song built around an amusing transformation of an elderly man who suddenly discovers a new sense of youth and style. Once confined to his bed, he now shines with energy, dresses up in a colourful dhoti, twists his moustache, applies perfume and puts on glasses as though age has disappeared altogether. His newfound “soku” soon becomes the talk of the entire village.

At the heart of the song is his eagerness to find a bride. He asks everyone for the whereabouts of a suitable woman, imagining someone who will cook hot meals for him and share his life. The humour grows as his search takes him through fields, pathways and neighbouring villages, questioning everyone he encounters about a possible match. The rustic expressions, exaggerated behaviour and repeated wedding references turn his longing into playful village comedy.

Written by Suresh Gangula and sung by Kumara Vagdevi, “Kotha Soku” gains its earthy character from Telangana dialect and folk imagery, while Pawan CH’s composition supports the song’s energetic, celebratory mood.
