About "Smile"

“Smile” from the Tara EP is a warm, intimate song about how love continues to feel present even when the person you care about is far away. Written around memories, longing and emotional closeness, the song begins by measuring that feeling through time: “every second, every minute, every hour, every day.” The idea is that thoughts and emotions keep accumulating until individual moments become notes, and those notes eventually turn into a song. Music itself becomes a way of expressing feelings that are difficult to contain or explain directly.

The central image, “kilometer smile,” beautifully connects happiness with distance. Even across kilometres, thinking about that person can still bring a smile. The line comparing their presence to a “holograph” takes this further: they may not physically be there, yet the mind and heart can almost see them. The lyrics also move naturally between English, Telugu and Hindi, especially around “pyaar” and “prema,” suggesting that love does not really depend on one language to be understood.

The repeated “pa pa pa” passages give the song a playful musical release, almost as though emotion has moved beyond words and simply becomes melody. When the lyrics admit that sometimes things are “not okay” without that person, the cheerful surface reveals the longing underneath. Performed and composed by Hemachandra, “Smile” ultimately captures an invisible connection that survives distance, where memories, music and affection keep someone emotionally close even when they cannot be physically beside you.
